It takes a long, long time to get to Canada...

Hi Everyone!

It seemed like forever but we have finally arrived and settled in. The trip took until 11:00pm Wednesday night and included nearly 21 hours of flying. After saying goodbye to Richard & Suzie, we headed through duty free. Unfortunately, we weren't able to buy any alcohol as we were told it would be confiscated at LA.

The new Air NZ Sky Couch

On Board the Plane

The flight to Auckland was very pleasant and we were quickly put on the flight to LA where we had selected the new SkyCouch option. It was seriously the best decision ever! We had plenty of space to lie down and actually managed to get a decent nights sleep. The food was really good and the staff were very helpful.

When we landed in LA and after we fought our way through Customs we realised why LAX is the worst airport in the world. Since we were going to be stuck there for over 3 hours, we paid a small fee to go to the Air NZ lounge.

As you can see, it was another good decision. We were able to have showers, sit back, relax and have a few drinks before we boarded our next flight.

Flying to Vancouver was less comfortable than previous flights but thankfully it was quick. When we landed, we were taken by a hire car to our hostel. It was a complete dump. Being close to midnight, we decided to stay here anyway. The next morning, we checked into a hotel which was absolutely beautiful.

Tuesday was spent wandering around Vancouver as well as setting up our bank accounts and getting our Social Insurance Numbers (like a TFN). Vancouver is an absolutely beautiful city. We stayed in downtown Vancouver which was about 10 minutes away from the water.

James ordered a large coffee - it was HUGE!!

Wednesday morning we boarded our final flight to Saskatoon with WestJet. By this point both of us were very sick of flying. We had a quick stop in Calgary where it was SNOWING!!!

This is why they call it the great white north

Our new boss met us at Saskatoon Airport. He is really nice and made us feel right at home. Almost straight after he picked us up we went to pick up a brand new Header (combine harvester) he bought. After a few more things, we headed out to Cut Knife. To be honest, it was not what we expected. The town was very sparse and so unlike rural Australian towns. We will explain more in a later post but we (maybe Jess more so) were upset and homesick when we saw the house. Over the next week will be doing it up a little bit.

Thats all for now, we will check back in soon.

Last post before we leave

Hello everyone,

We are sitting at the airport now with James's parents Richard and Suzie having a glass of champagne with our pizza. James got his licence back this morning and after that we headed to Peters of Kensington to get him a new suitcase (as his other one weighed 8 kilos!). After a bit of drama during check-in and unpacking and repacking, we are now settled in the bar.

Our flight leaves in less than two hours and we are very very very (times a million) excited!!!!! Jess still has to hit up duty free (for makeup) as does James (for Rum). We will keep updating the blog as we have wireless but goodbye for now (just in case).

We will miss everyone - especially family. James: - Richard, Suzie & Alex & Gaz (And little Tilly) Jess: Maarten, Snootiepie (& Gemma).

Vancouver has a current temp of 5 degrees.

See you on the other side!!

Jess & James

Welcome to the Blog

Hi everyone!

To keep everyone in the loop while we are away, James and I decided to start a blog. We will use this to upload photos and let you all know how we are going in our work & travels. Both of our mobile numbers will not work OS but we will let you know our Canadian number as soon as we get it.

James and I leave on Monday afternoon with Air New Zealand. The flight leaves at 3:30pm Sydney time and we arrive 9:30pm Vancouver time on the same day! After two days in Vancouver, we will leave for Cut Knife, a little town of around 350 people, just over 2 hours from Saskatoon. Our work is on a 13,000acre cropping farm just outside of town. We will be working here from April through to November, with a month in Europe (England & France) in June/July. After November we will move to the ski fields to work the season there, finishing late April. From there it is still an open book so we will let you know closer to the time.

Both of us have not even started packing yet and it is getting closer and closer. Thursday and Friday will be spent at the Royal Sydney Easter Show, so we are in for some late nights and early mornings.

Well thats all for now, lets hope we can make some progress on packing today!
